Per noi italiani i phrasal verbs sono una difficoltà extra: nella nostra lingua, infatti, non esiste niente di simile.
Il problema principale, per noi, non è tanto capire che i phrasal verbs possono essere composti da 2 o 3 parole, ma che lo stesso verbo possa assumere così tanti significati (e così diversi l’uno dall’altro) cambiando solo la preposizione finale. Ci dispiace dirtelo, ma i phrasal verbs si usano tantissimo. Non si tratta di un’eccezione a una regola di grammatica o di un modo alternativo di dire qualcosa: vi sono molti concetti che, in inglese, si possono esprimere solo con un phrasal verb.
Però abbiamo una buona notizia: una volta che li hai imparati e cominci ad usarli ogni giorno, non li dimentichi più. I phrasal verbs sono senza ombra di dubbio il segnale di un livello alto di inglese. Possiamo scegliere di dire “please continue” o “please go on”, ma un madrelingua inglese userà quasi sicuramente la seconda opzione.
Il nostro consiglio è di non cercare di imparare a memoria i phrasal verbs, ma di ragionare sul loro significato, aiutandosi con degli esempi pratici. Solo così, infatti, alla fine riuscirai a non dimenticarli in pochi giorni.

1. Away
Andare lontano/ allontanarsi: I’m going away on vacations / Vado in vacanza lontano da qui.
