Il Past Perfect Simple (had + participio passato) si usa per tradurre il
trapassato prossimo (per es. ‘ero andato’, ‘avevo visto’), il quale è l’unico tempo in italiano che
si traduce sempre con lo stesso tempo in inglese.
esempi (con
traduzione):
a) Non sono voluti venire al cinema perché c’erano stati la sera prima.
b) Eravamo distrutti perchè avevamo dovuto lavorare fino a tardi la sera prima..
c) Non siamo potuti andare perchè il tempo era cambiato ed aveva nevicato.
d) Si erano sposati a giugno ma avevano rimandato il loro viaggio di nozze a dicembre.
e) Nessuno sapeva quando era successo.
a) They didn’t want to come to the cinema because they’d been the evening before.
b) We were exhausted because we’d had to work until late the evening before.
c) We couldn’t go because the weather had changed and it had snowed.
d) They’d got married in June but they’d postponed their honeymoon to December.
e) Nobody knew when it had happened.
traduzione):
